Where We Are & What We Need

Since the first So(u)lday we have sent an interest application for those who signed up to be on the advisory committee. This committee are 4-5 Black queer representatives from the community as well as seeking mentor advice from organization like Mississippi in Action This advisory committee will help inform policies, requirements, give input, support application review, as well as support with planning efforts for The Sweet Magnolia Fund &  So(u)lday. While volunteerism is great, it’s hard to sustain community leadership because of systemic barriers that prevent sustainable leadership commitments.o this end, we intend for the advisory committee community members to be paid for their contributions.

Right now, like the fund itself, the advisory committee is in development with 3 committed members so far, so we intend to use this year to solidify both by:

Continuing outreach efforts for the inaugural advisory committee for the fund
Researching and talking to other Black LGBTQ+ artist led mutual aid funds
Planning two So(u)lday Sunday art exhibitions
Creating an application portal for nominations or proposals for the fund
Creating community informed vision, priorities, and activities for the fund
Continuing to redistribute funds as we build the structure for this fund
Collectively decide on the best tax status for this fund
